The Q&A Archives: Planting Evergreens in Shade

Question: Can you recommend evergreen trees or shrubs that grow well in shade or partial shade?

Answer: Very few plants grow well in deep shade, but you might try Aucuba japonica for a very shady site. In morning-only sun or bright dappled light all day, you could try rhododendron, Pieris japonica, boxwood, yew, and hollies. In afternoon-only sun you could grow junipers or yews. I hope this gives you some ideas.
