| Dianthus are fairly easy to grow. In the spring you would trim back any winter damaged foliage, if necessary. If your plants tend to need staking, put the stakes in place now. You could topdress with compost and/or a general purpose granular or slow release fertilizer in early spring. Read and follow the label directions. Mulch around them year round with an organic mulch about two inches thick, do not allow it to touch the stems of the plant. Remove faded blooms to tidy the plant, this also encourages rebloom on some varieties. Enjoy your carnations! |
