We would like to plant evergreen shrubs. They need to be very tall to mask a local school's football field. What do you suggest? |
Arborvitae is a good choice. Of them, I'd choose 'Green Giant' (Thuja plicata x standishii 'Green Giant') This is a tightly pyramidal evergreen with very uniform growth and appearance. Foliage is dense and rich green. Is very hardy and easy to grow. It is a very vigorous grower once established (can grow from 3-5 feet a year). Has no significant pest or disease problems. Is resistant to deer browsing. Tolerates almost any kind of soil. Holds up to ice, snow and wind. Excellent for use as hedge, screen or windbreak (plant 5-6 feet apart). When young can be pruned or sheared to maintain size. Best wishes with your new shrubs. |
