Hi, I have a vegetable garden, laid out in concentric circles with a center round bed and several curved beds which radiate from the outside of center bed to the outer edges, with paths between the beds, and four additional paths that extend from the center bed to the edge of the garden, one heading north, one south, one east and one west. The garden looks kind of like a spider's web. I also have two dogs and four cats and no fence around the garden. Even though I garden organically, carnivore manure wasn't quite in my plans. The only way I have thought to fence this garden is with chain link (ugh) or chicken wire (double ugh), with four gates. I would love other ideas, preferrably inexpensive and beautiful. I hate kitsch, so no |
You might try a perimeter hedge with four simple wooden gates, or a simple fence of recycled wooden pallets which age naturally to a lovely silver gray or can be painted or stained as desired, or a nearly invisible strand or two of low charged electric fence wire. Another option might be to train the dogs to stay out of the garden area and use a spray-on repellent to deter the cats. I hope this gives you some ideas. |
