| I bought a water bamboo. there is around ten of them in a low dish. It has water and something see thru thick stuff. I figured it's to hold it to the center of the dish. It was doing good for awhile now it is turning brown and there is some mold. what can iI do to save it? |
| I apologize if you receive this answer twice. I remember answering it yesterday but it has reappeared due to a system problem. I think you should empty the dish, scrub it out, and rinse with a solution of nine parts water and one part bleach. Then gently clean the underwater portions of the plants, and dip in water/bleach. That should take care of the mold for now. I would replant into either individual smaller containers that would hold them upright without additional support, or plant in the large dish using clean pebbles or marbles as supports (rinse clean before using). Periodically empty and clean the dish and stones and rinse the base of the plants. This should prevent the mold from reappearing. As far as the browing, this can be due to excess direct sun (they need bright but indirect light) or can happen if the bottom of the plants dries out. A buildup of minerals can sometimes cause browning; I like to use rain water or bottled fluoride free water for these plants. Also, hot or cold drafts could damage the leaves, as could extremely dry air. Try to keep it in an area that is away from heat vents or drafts and as humid as possible. I hope this helps. |
