Last year we used straw to mulch are raised beds to keep down the weeks. In preparing the garden for this year, should I remove last year's straw or should I till it into the soil. I am concerned that be tilling in the straw I might be assisting some overwintering worms or bugs. |
The straw you used as mulch will become excellent organic matter when rototilled into the soil. Any insect eggs or live critters it contains will be buried down far enough that they won't pose a threat to your new crops. Go ahead and amend that soil - spring isn't too far away! |
