The Q&A Archives: grass

Question: my lawns has a lots of empty spots and i would like to scrape off and plant another gras, what should i do?

Answer: You can spot patch the lawn. Loosen the soil down about six inches and work in some compost. Mix in fertilizer or lime if indicated by soil testing. Level the area and rake it smooth. Spread the seed, rake again lightly to barely cover most of the seed. Water. Cover with a thin layer of straw to help shade the ground and keep it moist. Water as needed to keep it moist. You can use plain seed this way, or use a patch kit -- follow the label directions. Good luck!
