Spent blooms should always be removed from annuals, to encourage more blooms and to keep plants looking fresh. New Wave petunias are bred to be used as ground cover plants. Their sprawling nature, plus the way the bloom color changes as the flowers mature, will help hide old spent blooms. They won't require the same amount of deadheading, but will benefit from having the spent blooms routinely removed.
