my lirope, hostas, and lilies were up and had leaves. The lilies had buds. The temperature dropped in the 20s for 4 days. What should I do with them, especially the lilies. The top with the buds are drooped over. thank you Ada |
This spring weather has been so hard on our flowers! There is not too much you can do except wait and see how the recover. It may take them a while to regather their strength and begin to grow again. Once you are sure the cold weather has passed for good, trim off any ruined stems, tips and buds that have turned soft and mushy or foliage that remains wilted. (The damaged parts will protect the rest of the plant from the cold if there is more bad weather.) Additional partially damaged foliage can be gently trimmed off or left alone to drop off naturally. In the meantime, you could topdress with compost to give them some TLC. I am sorry about your plants. |
