I recently purchased some female skimmia plants. Is it necessary to place male plants with them to produce berries ? If so, where can I purchase male plants ? All the Home Depot seemed to have is female plants. Your help would be appreciated. |
Yes, you will need a male plant in order for your females to fruit. The rule of thumb is one male per six females, planted in the same general area. If your local store does not carry male skimmias then you may want to check with other suppliers. A possible source could be a mail order catalog such as Forestfarm or Heronswood, for example. http://www.forestfarm.com/ http://www.heronswood.com/ Good luck with your search! |
