The Q&A Archives: Mottled Bark

Question: WE have a young red maple tree which appears to be growing but the bark has very light circles giving it a mottled appearance. Is this a problem?

Answer: I think what you are describing is normal, the bark tends to be a bit splotchy for lack of a more precise term. To be sure it is okay, you might want to take a photo or two and check with your local Rutgers county extension.
