Any variety of tomato will adapt to growing in a 5-gallon container. Just make sure there's good drainage, you fill it with commercial potting soil rather than garden soil, and you place it where it will receive full sunshine. Containers need to be carefully monitored so the soil never dries out.
Some of my favorite tomatoes include Burpee's Big Boy, Celebrity, Supersteak Hybrid, and Delicious. If you plant indeterminate tomatoes, plan to add a couple of stakes when you fill the container, to provide support for the growing plants.
