| I have been told that annuals are not the best to plant because they do not come back the following year and will have to replace them. Can you give me more information on annuals? Unfortantely I do not have enough knowledge on types of plants. |
| Doris, I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question and hope it is still helpful to you. Annuals do complete their life cycle within a year. There are warm season annuals such as zinnias or marigolds and cool season annuals such as pansies. Perennials live from year to year, typically dying to the ground in winter and returning from the ground the following spring. There are a few perennial bulbs that have their dormant period in the summer. Annuals provide opportunities for having a lot of color fast while perennials are a longer term investment, but have their off seasons when they are not that attractive.
