Hi-I cannot get to the County Extension Office to get my soil tested and they cannot help me via mail! Is there a reliable soil test kit that I can purchase and do it myself please? We live in the Four Oaks NC area and have Clay/Sandy soil..it is a previous farming area.

There are probably private soil labs in your area who would be willing to mail you a test kit. If that fails, you can purchase a home kit at your local Home Depot garden center. RapidTest manufactures such a kit. This very easy to use soil test kit will allow you to have greener lawns, abundant flowers, fruits and vegetables. This kit tests for pH, Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium levels. You will appreciate the unique specially designed "color comparator" and capsule system, that makes quick work of soil testing. This soil test kit is easy, fast and fun way to achieve better growing results from your gardening efforts. To use this soil test kit, all you do is put a sample of soil into the comparator, pour in powder from capsule, add water, shake and watch the color develop. Fast, easy and it only takes a few minutes! Included in this kit are: 40 tests, 10 each for pH; Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K); 4 color comparator; complete instructions for adjusting pH; a pH preference list for over 400 plants and fertilization guidelines for N, P, and K.

Hope this information helps!
