| I want to pave a portion of my backyard with stone landscaping paver blocks, essentially extending the back patio around the back perimeter of the house. My understanding is that grass, in addition to making the lawn look gorgeous, also prevents soil erosion since the roots hold the soil in place and absorb the water. So my question is, if I pave such a large area with those stones, since there is no grass, will the rain wash away the soil/ground underneath the stones and possibly cause more damage to the land? | Howard, I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question and hope it is still helpful to you. The pavers if set closely together will prevent erosion quite well. Some people set them a little farther apart and put pea gravel in between them but I would recommend closer spacing and then putting some sand on them and sweeping it around to fall in all the cracks for a good tight set.
