We are planning on moving some sod and seeding the bare spots on our lawn. What should we to to the ground before placing the new sod on it and what additives such as compost, peet moss, etc should we add to the soil before or after sod or seed application?

You'll want to dig into the bare spots to loosen the soil and then rake it level with the rest of the lawn area; overseed and then sprinkle a light coating of peat moss over the top of the seeds to help keep them moist. They should germinate in 7-10 days if kept moist.

If you're setting new sod, prepare the soil the same way and press the sod into the bare spots to make good soil to root contact. Water frequently enough to keep the sod from drying out.

Best wishes with your renovation project!
