I have Dwarf Alberta Spruce trees and Boxwood in containers on my terrace. I was wondering how often I should water them. They're in garden soil with fertilizer spikes topped off with mulch. Thanks for your help.

How often to water will depend on the weather, the size of the plant in relation to the container, and on the soil mix you used. Dig into the soil with your finger and feel it. Water as needed to keep the soil slightly damp like a wrung out sponge. It should not be sopping wet or dried out. In hot weather, during dry spells, and in windy weather you may have to water more often than you would in rainy weather or cool weather. Also, rather than the spikes, I would suggest topdressing with good quality compost and using a slow release granular fertilizer such as 10-10-10 per the label directions. (Remove the spikes before adding the granular fertilizer.)
