are there any mulches to use that are more termite resistant, or less likely to attract termites into the gardens that surround your house's foundations?

Surprisingly, termites actually like the damp moist location beneath the mulch so they will sometimes be attracted to gravel mulches as well as organic mulches. To discourage their appearance, keep the mulch several inches away from the foundation of your home. Here is more information from the Iowa State extension service you might find interesting. You may need to cut and paste the complete url into your browser to make it work correctly.
