The Q&A Archives: Why do my Valencia oranges turn brown?

Question: I notice that my Valencia Oranges are all turning brown. They are not close to being ripe and are only about half of the normal size.

Answer: What you describe is a condition called russeting. Russeting is due to environmental stress, but it does not significantly affect taste or quality. Since you can't control the weather, you may see these patches from time to time in your crop.
