Adenium obesum or desert rose should be growing in a fast draining sandy or cactus type of soil mix. It does well in a pot that is undersized so do not repot it until it is very crowded. Water sparingly in winter so it dries out thoroughly between watering. In summer when it is actively growing, water more generously. It is a succulent (not a cactus), so you need to water enough that it does not shrivel, but overwatering can cause root problems. Give this plant as much light as possible. In summer, gradually acclimate it to being in the real outdoor sun when you take it outside. This is a plant that loves heat and should do well outside for the summer. Pony tail palm or Nolina recurvata would be very similar in care. |
