I have a shady back yard until about 4pm. What is the best plants or flowers for me to plant in the flower beds around my deck?

There are many perennial plants you could use. Hostas and ferns, Pulmonaria, Lamium, Tricyrtis, Dicentra, Tiarella, Helleborus are just a few perennials that would do well in a shady area. Or, you might prefer a groundcover such as Vinca minor, Hedera helix, or Epimedium. For summer color you could add a few large containers with shade tolerant annaul flowers such as begonias or impatiens. I hope this gives you some ideas.
