I WOULD LIKE TO GRAFT VARIOUS FRUIT TREES TO REAP FRUITS IN A FASTER TIME FRAME. USING A 1 YEAR OLD PLANT FROM SEED AND ATTACHING AN OLDER PLANT. I WOULD LIKE TO GRAFT ACKEE, AVACADO, MANGOS. WHAT WOULD I NEED AND HOW WOULD I GO ABOUT DOING THIS. WHERE CAN I PURCHASE THESE GRAFTING ITEMS? I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO GROW A TREE (BREADFRUIT TREE) WHICH IS NOT GROWN HERE DUE TO COLD TEMPERATURES HERE. WHAT CAN I DO TO BE ABLE TO PROTECT THE TREE WHEN TEMPERATURES FALL BELOW 40 DEGREES, OR IS THIS TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE? |
Roxanne, I apologize for this delayed reply to your gardening question and hope it is still helpful to you. Protecting a large tree is not practical but a smaller tree can be covered with a tarp placed over a PVC pipe structure and then a heat source placed inside. Your options for propagating those fruit plants include cuttings, air layering and grafting. The following web site offers tropical fruit propagation info: http://www.crfg.org/tidbits/pr... This next web site shows how to cleft graft avocadoes. This method works with most other fruit trees as well. http://tilz.tearfund.org/Publi... Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon! |
