| I would first caution you about planting tomatoes in the same spot year after year. It's always best to rotate your crops - moving them around the garden confuses the insect pests and helps keep diseases at bay. If you continually plant tomatoes in the same spot, diseases will overwinter in the soil - ready to reinfect the following year's crop. Insects will hang out, too, providing you with all kinds of entertainment for the entire season. I'd stick with the wire cages, or fashion some out of wood. As long as you can move them around the garden, your tomato plants will be much happier and healthier. |
