Mimosa (Fabaceae) is native to the tropics or warm regions of the world, notably Australia, Mexico, and the southwestern states. The tree offers fountains of fragrant flowers from January through February. The tree has feathery, finely cut, blue-gray leaves and clusters of yellow flowers. The flowers are about 1 1/2 inches wide and smell sweet, like perfume.
