The Q&A Archives: Figs in Colorado

Question: Can I plant figs here in Colorado Springs, region 5b? I would rather plant them in the ground and not in containers.

Answer: Fig trees would not withstand your winter temperatures in the ground. If you want to try them in containers to move indoors, note that most varieties need a long period of very warm temperatures to bear a good fruit crop so read their descriptions carefully to see if they are suited. Good luck!
