The Q&A Archives: veg/flower gardens

Question: Wish to plant a vegetable garden, plant lilly, calla lillies. Deer, rabbit, squirrels and turkey venture onto the property. Also have ground hogs all around. No fenced acrea at moement to

Answer: If animals are hungry enough they will eat just about anything. There are many lists of "deer or rabbit resistant" plants, but keep in mind that plants recommended for another part of the country may not do well in your area, and that animals in one region may eat something that those in another don't! Fences are usually the only guaranteed method of keeping creatures out. You might consider raised beds with a chicken wire "lid" over the plants. Or perhaps large containers set up on blocks (although that won't stop deer). Good luck!
