MY MAIN QUESTION IS THAT I WANT TO KNOW SOME DIFFERENT IDEAS ON A LONG LASTING SOMETHING TO USE AS A BORDER TO AN ABOVE GROUND VEGATABLE GARDEN. I WAS TOLD THAT RR TIES AND OR ANY TREATED WOODS ARE TOXIC TO VEG PLANTS AND HUMANS. SO I WOULD GUESS THAT I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO USE LANDSCAPE TIMBERS EATHER. SO WHAT IS AT MY HOME DEPOT IN LANCASTER TX, THAT I COULD USE TO MAKE MY ABOVE VEG GARDENS. I KNOW I COULD USE THE BRICK ITEMS BUT THE AMOUNT I WOULD NEED IS JUST TO MUCH MONEY, DOES HD SELL PLASTIC WOOD? DOES HD HAVE LIKE NATURAL CEDAR WOODS IN PLANKS THAT I COULD USE TO MAKE 12 FOOT BY 20 FOOT GARDENS? ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GOOD HERE. THANK YOU.

Carolyn,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

Ties and timbers are not toxic to plants. There is debate as to whether vegetables take up much if any of their chemicals. Check with your local Home Depot for availability of cedar and plastic wood products. I would consider cinder blocks. They can be stained to look quite natural in color.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
