The nursery ad states that this plant grows in Zones 3 - 9. Nornally, we don't experience a real winter season. Does this peony require a cold dormacy period to grow and develop blooms? I'm withholding my order until I sure the plant will grow here. Please advise.

Danny,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

While you are in that plant's cold hardiness range the heat of your summers and the length of the summer period is too much for them to thrive. I would not suggest planting any type of peonies that far south. The lack of dormancy period is also a challenge for them but nothing like the summer.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
