You'll want to cut a stem as long as possible so your flower will last a long time. Cutting the flowers won't hurt the plant. Choose flowers that are just barely beginning to open, cut them with as long a stem as possible, and immediately place the cut end in cool water. After placing your bird of paradise in an arrangement, remember to cut an inch off the stem every 2 days (it can seal up and shorten the life of the flower). If you cut a little from the stem every few days, the flower will remain attractive for almost 2 weeks.

Enjoy!
