I just bought a fern and was told to give it half a cup of water every three or four days and lots of sun. I read in a book that ferns need lots of water and shady conditions. What do you think?

Ferns do best with lots of water and shady conditions. They especially like to have their leaves misted with water because they grow naturally in humid areas. You'd do best to water well and then let the top of the soil dry out before watering again.Give it enough water at one time so the water runs out the drainage holes in the pot. Mist the leaves every two or three days. With this treatment you'll have a lush, green fern that will put out lots of new fronds.
