I am interested in purchasing ladybugs, praying mantis eggs and green lacewings for my garden. When is the best time to purchase these bugs so they will arrive alive and when is the best time to release them in the garden.

These insect types are most active in the spring when the weather is warm, so plan on releasing them then. They all eat enormous quantities of aphids, and while aphids reproduce all summer, they're especially abundant in the early spring. Praying Mantids eat most anything that moves, including their siblings, so it will be interesting to see how many mantids grow to adulthood!
