I'm a first time gardener and I want to plant beautiful annuals that are very colorful. Do you have any suggestions on what kind of flowers/plants I should use?

The world is your oyster! There are so many things you can grow, here are a few colorful perennial selections: Achillea filipendulina (Fernleaf Yarrow), Alchemilla mollis (Lady's Mantle), Anchusa azurea (Italian Bugloss), Anthemis tinctoria (GoldenMarguerite), Armeria maritima (Sea Pink/Sea Thrift), Asters (many varieties), Astilbe (Meadowsweet/False Spirea), Aurinia saxatilis (Goldentuft), Chrysanthemum coccineum (Painted Daisy/Pyrethrum), Dicentra spectablis (Bleeding Heart), Echinacea purpurea(Purple Coneflower), Gaillardia x grandiflora (Blanket Flower), Daylily (Hemerocallis - many, many varieties), Iris (many varieties), Liatris spicata (Gayfeather), Lupinus (Lupines), Lychnis chalcedonica (Maltese Cross), Monarda didyma (Beebalm), Papaverorientale (Oriental Poppy), Rudbeckia (Black Eyed Susan - many varieties), Salvia, Veronica (Speedwell)...is that enough for ya? Try also shrubs like azalea, rhododendron, hydrangea, forsythia, kalmia (mountain laurel), and of course roses!

Remember that for the bountiful garden you're dreaming of, you may need to spend some time preparing the soil, adding lots of rich compost before planting.

Enjoy!
