The Q&A Archives: Flowering shade perennials?

Question: I would like to plant a bunch of perennials in my back yard. We have a large area that is almost always in the shade but we would like somethings that flower and are more than just green leaves. We have a few hostas but are wondering what other perennials that have flowers would do good in the shade?

Answer: There are a number of perennials that do well in shade. Some to consider include: Astilbe, Dicentra, Epimedium, Hellebore, Lamium, Pulmonaria, Tiarella and Tricyrtis. Be sure to consider as well ferns and hostas with patterned foliage to add textural interest as well. Enjoy your shade garden!
