We have a Christian school running in our home. I wanted to start a garden (I've never had one before) in a little spot in our backyard. Since we have many young children who play back there during recess, I don't want any of them to end up getting stung by bees. Are there any plants/flowers that do not attract bees, but are still beautiful?

Bees are attracted to many of our popular flowering plants including trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables and weeds that are insect pollinated. Trying to use only wind pollinated plants in a flower garden would be disappointing because their flowers tend to be small and not showy. You could, for example, use just ornamental grasses.

Here are some tips about avoiding bee stings you and your students may find useful. You may need to cut and paste the complete url into your browser to make it work correctly.
