I have an awning on the east side of my house and would like to plant some boxwoods in that area. But I was reading that boxwoods need good sunlight, would this be a bad area to plant them? If so, what shrubs would be a good alternative? |
'Chicagoland Green' and 'Green Velvet' boxwoods do well here in Green Bay Wisconsin (z5a) in deep shade. Leatherwood (if you can find it) is one of the most shade tolerant. The Fargesia bamboos love the shade and do well here with winter protection. I also like Sambucus 'Pulverulenta' with its white-spoted leaves. Hydrangea arborescens is also very shade tolerant. Hope one of these suggestions is just right for your garden! |
