Is the root base of a mimosa tree narrow and deep or broad and shallow? How hard would it be to dig and move a 5-6 year old tree?

In my experience this would be very difficult. Mimosas have a very sparse root system that runs very deep. Digging them - except as very small first year seedlings -- usually loses so much root that they do not survive the move. In addition, the left behind root often regenerates and sends up new top growth. I think you would be disappointed.
