I am a terrible and new gardener and I want to have a beautiful yard. What types of trees/shrubs/perennials should I get that are easy to care for and grow good in sandy soil? My daughter's christening is in June and I would love to have a beautiful yard for it!

This sounds like a job for a professional! I can give you a list of plants that will grow well in your gardening region, but most will show some transplant stress for several weeks after planting. Since you only have a few weeks before the christening, you may want to simply fill the beds and borders will colorful annuals and place some containers of flowering annuals and perennials in strategic places. How about a trip to your local Home Depot garden center to look at what's in bloom and ask for assistance from the professionals there.

Best wishes with your project!
