what are some shrubs that would be good for a privacy hedge that would not require a lot of trimming, could with stand drought conditions, and would not use more than 2 feet of space?

Two possibilities come to mind; Skyrocket juniper and Thuja (American arborvitae). Both will grow narrow and tall and both are drought tolerant once established. Your garden center might have even more possibilities.
