| Are there roses that are evergreen? For the past 2 winters, I have 2 roses 1)Lady Elsie May - a shrub, and 2) Golden Wing - a shrub, that did not lose their leaves, or if they did, it was so few it was not noticeable. We've had several days in the low 20's and high teens which did not seems to effect them. Thank you. |
| You've got some tough roses! In mild winter areas (such as southern California and Arizona), roses do not lose their leaves at all, but maintain them throughout the year. However, to discourage insect and disease problems, all roses should be pruned back or at least have their leaves stripped in December or January. Your shrub roses are either planted in protected places, or they are exceptionally hardy not to have lost their leaves at all. I'd still prune them back, though, to both control and direct their growth and to remove any overwintering insect or disease problems. Best wishes with your roses! |
