2 weeks ago I planted 3 emerald green arborvitaes. Should I trim the tops now or wait a year? I want to create a privacy hedge>

Pruning encourages new growth and since you've only just planted your arborvitaes, you'll want them to establish good root systems before they put their energy into new top growth. I'd resist the urge to prune just now. Wait until next spring and then do your first pruning.

Best wishes with your garden!
