| My friend and I both had the same problem last year with our chives. (2 locations.) I took some of her mature chives and when they came back they were flat not hollow and lost their onion taste and smell. This year I dug them up and they had bulbs about 1 inch wide. Did they turn into onions? This happened to both of us |
| In my experience, chives stay consistent from year to year, and even the seedlings are consistent. Garlic chives have relatively flat leaves and white flowers, but still have small bulbs. I suppose it is possible you have a related onion, they are very close botanically so seedlings could seem like chives. |
