I have several sago palms in my yard that vary in size and maturity. What is the most effective way to prune and care for them to promote growth?

Michael,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

Pruning amounts to only removing lower fronds that are turning yellow or brown. It can be done whenever you wish. Keep the soil moist but not soggy and fertilize in spring and early summer with a lawn fertilizer at a rate of 1/4 cup per plant sprinkled evenly in a 4 foot circle around each plant. Then water it in well.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
