A narrow strip can be difficult. You might try dwarf bamboo or ferns, or a combination of mondo grass (Ophiopogon) and pansies. Space the plants roughly two feet apart (mondo grass likes to spread). In the gaps, to provide some seasonal color, plant 'Crystal Bowl True Blue' pansies. The pansies will flower for at least eigth weeks in the spring and then rebound in the fall with even more blasts of color. This easy and inexpensive solution solves what is otherwise a problem planting area.

Enjoy!
