We have a small rodent living under our patio that looks like a fat mouse without a tail. It does not make tunnels under the ground per se, but burrows through the grass and is ripping up the lawn. We would like to know how to get rid of it! I have a mole trap that is inserted into the lawn over a tunnel, but this doesn't tunnel under the ground, just through the grass. Thanks!

The behavior sounds like a shrew, but they have tails, as do all rodents. You won't have much luck with a mole trap unless the fella commutes via tunnels. Why not try a live trap, such as the Hav-A-Heart traps available at garden stores? You can try baiting the trap with apple or orange slices, some ripe banana, or some fishing worms. Once you catch the critter you can identify him and fix whatever attracted him to your patio in the first place!

Good luck in your venture.
