The Q&A Archives: small patio tree

Question: What tree would you suggest for small patio area? I need(colorful)tree with small trunk, and little roots...for mostly sunny area.

Answer: The selection would depend on what size tree you really need. There are some small maturing crabapple trees in the 15-20 foot range, for example. If you need something closer to ten feet then you might consider a lilac or PeeGee hydrangea or other large shrub. Your local county extension may also have some suggestions based on a more detailed understanding of your planting site and your overall design goals. Enjoy your tree!
