| I know there is another name for this tree which can be grown in my climate but my mom has been trying for years to get it to produce fruit which the magazine says that it will do. We have several of them. We get flowers but no fruit. Can you tell me why? |
| I suspect it is a Musa basjoo? Congratulations on getting them to bloom! You'll need two of these trees blooming at the same time for pollination to occur, and bees or wasps to move the pollen for you as well, plus a long season for the bananas to form. They are very small (maybe four inches) and inedible. The trees need to be fertilized heavily and need continued heat to maintain vigorous growth after bloom so they can form the fruit. It is possible your growing season is so short they are being moved indoors or beginning to slow by the time they are ready to set the fruit so the process is interrupted. It would take about two months or so after flowering to have mature fruit. I hope this helps you troubleshoot. |
