The Q&A Archives: Soggy yard

Question: What types of trees or plants could I plant in a soggy location? We have several streams that run through our front yard & I would like to plant something that will soak up some of the water.

Answer: Depending on the space you have available for the plants to grow and mature, you might consider some of the following: (trees) Betula nigra "Heritage", Acer rubrum, Magnolia virginiana; (shrubs) Ilex verticillata, Ilex glabra, Cornus sericea, Aronia arbutifolia, and Itea virginica. I hope this gives you some ideas.
