We are looking for information about the types of grass to plant in our yard. We have every thing from full shade to full sun. Mostly the yard has good drainage and is comprised of good fertile soil. Is there one grass to cover the whole spectrum, or do we need to plant different varieties?

Since it sounds like you are starting from scratch, you might plant one of the new, low maintenance grass mixes. These usually consist of fairly drought-hardy, slow-growing varieties--less watering, fertilizing, and mowing! Peaceful Valley Farm Supply (ph# 916-272-4769) carries a "Low Maintenance Lawn" seed mix; it doesn't say in the description whether it will withstand shade, so you'll have to check with them. They also sell a mix called "Sun and Shade Lawn".
