I have been told that I need to plant a male and female eastern redbud in close proximitry to be successful, Is this true, or can I just plant a male (one without seed pods) by itself?

James,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. The spring rush has brought a deluge of questions and we are working hard to catch up!

No, you don't need two trees. They are not male and female anyway but rather have complete perfect blooms. One tree will bloom on its own.

Thanks for the question. Best wishes for a wonderful gardening season. Please stop in again soon!
