| My dog urinates on the lawn and it now has burn spots. The dog is on some pills which change the urine's ph so it is no longer a problem, but in the burned areas nothing will grow.How do I fix this? I have seeded those areas but to no effect. They have been watered hoping that would dilute what ever is preventing anything from growing. Not even weeds will grow in these spots. |
| The problem is that the soil is saturated with uric acid and that needs to be neutralized chemically (there's a product called Dogonit) which is a probiotic soil treatment that helps your lawn heal naturally from dog urine burns, road salts and over fertilization. It adds enzymes that help digest uric acid and urea. It is not a fertilizer but an enzyme based product. You can use it on a spot that is already burned or on an area that your dog recently wet. You'll spray it on and then water the area thoroughly. Use the 24 ounce bottle to treat up to 150 spots. The 32 ounce concentrate is for serious problems and will treat 1000 square feet. If you'd rather not purchase a product to neutralize the areas, you can simply dig the affected soil out (3-4" deep) and replace it with fresh garden soil, then reseed. Best wishes with your lawn! |
